How to get an Apostille on Irish and UK documents for use in Italy?

Docsbase Consular Services with an office in Dublin Ireland and London UK is specialising in legalisation of all types of commercial, vital, government documents from Ireland and the UK for official use in Italy. We can arrange reissuance of documents in the UK and Ireland, notarisation and apostille legalisation of Irish and UK documents as well as the Embassy legalisation in London and Dublin. We are familiar with the requirements of Italian authorities and can prepare your documents in a way that they will be accepted by the Italian authorities without any further legalisation. Docsbase Translation is our in-house translation department specialising in preparing a certified translation of English documents into Italian appropriately certified for use in Italy. We also have reliable partners in Rome that can provide legalisation of Italian documents for use abroad, in particular in the Republic of Ireland and the UK.

What is Apostille and consular legalisation?

Consular legalisation of Italian documents involves two steps. You first need to have the signature and the capacity of the official signing the original document legalised in the public prosecutor’s office (Procura) or in the local government’s prefectural office (Prefettura). And then you would need to bring this legalised document to the consulate of the country where your Italian document will be presented to.

Apostille is a simplified version of legalisation (sometimes even referred to as Apostille stamp instead of legalisation) and it does away with the need to have your original document legalised in a consulate. Apostille can only be affixed to the Italian documents intended for use in any of the countries signatories of the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961.

Consular legalisation is thus the type of legalisation you would need to obtain if your Italian documents are to be used in China, most African states and the Middle East, for example. Please note that consular legalisation must be done in person. This means that the document would need to be physically delivered to the consulate of one of these states to be legalised. This may be tricky and may involve travel to a different province or city and this is where the services that we offer at DocsBase will prove invaluable, save you time and money.

What documents are apostilled in Italy for use abroad?

If you are moving abroad, even temporarily, you would need to arrange for a translation and legalisation of a number of your Italian documents. These vary and depend on what you would be doing abroad. If you are going to be studying, any academic certificates (secondary school or university) and transcripts of results would need to be translated. If you are moving for work, you would need to show your Italian tax certificates and employment recommendation letters to your new employer abroad. If you are simply moving for personal reasons to join a spouse in a different country, personal certificates (such as birth and marriage certificates) would have to be translated and certified.

Apostille and legalisation process in Italy

Italian Apostille legalisation process varies from other countries in that there is no centralised Apostille service in Italy. This means that if your document has been issued in Rome, it must be apostilled in Rome and there is alas no way around it.

This may pose a difficulty if the nature of your work entails regular travel and you may not have the time or be in a position to arrange for an Apostille stamp in its original place of issue. This is where DocsBase will be happy to help. We work with a network of agents in major cities across Italy and can arrange for an Apostille stamp to be affixed on your behalf anywhere in Italy. We can also take care of all consular legalisation formalities for you as well.
